Oh my gosh! What have I done??
After work tonight, I took the kids out for Chinese and went by the electronics store. Unlike Paul, I'm not big into electronics or gadgets or any of that stuff. My daughter and I have lived for nearly three years with only one TV in our house - a 13" TV/VCR combination. I finally decided to get something I could see from more than three feet away. I looked around, researched on line and measured the inside dimensions of my entertainment armoire (which houses my 13" TV, so as not to have that garrish thing sitting out in the open). I settled on a relatively basic TV with a 24" screen. I found it for $260 and decided to go pick it up tonight.
So what happened??
I got there and located the TV I was looking for relatively quickly. It was on a shelf with some widescreen, HDTV, flat screen televisions that were on sale. Hey...a wide screen is a pretty good idea. I didn't know they even made those in the standard tube TVs. I thought those were only available in the various flat panel models. They had a 26" wide screen that would fit nicely into my cabinet. Oh, okay...I might have to pop out a little hole in the back for the deepest part of the tube. The unit's reported depth is 19-3/4" and my cabinet measured 19" deep. But what a great picture. And widescreen format! Wow! And on sale...for only about twice what I'd gone there expecting to pay for that 24" basic TV.
Did I just say "ONLY TWICE as much??" What was I thinking?? On top of everything else, it weighs a TON! My daughter and I struggled to carry it in the house and I'd venture to guess it weighs somewhere in the area of...oh...1,200 pounds!!! My cabinet will surely collapse!!
I feel like some of you probably felt on the morning of New Year's Day.
What have I done? What was I thinking? NEVER AGAIN!!

Welcome to the dark side! I'm so bad about doing exactly what you described...I'll go in to pick up something reasonably priced and practical, and then I leave with something I don't really need and can't really afford.

Pay the bill, and sin no more. And enjoy, otherwise, it really wasn't worth it, was it?

This does remind me of the time I decided that my cable bill was entirely too high. A cable guy was in the neighborhood. I called him over and told him I wanted to cancel some of the programming. Well, I did get that accomplished, but before I was finished I bought some other programming and a DVR. My bill ended up higher than it was before. The wife laughed at me.

Oh, well! A good TV lasts for years so it's worth the investment to get exactly what you want. Or at least close enough to what you want that you can still afford it. Alex wants a TV he can respect, but that'll have to wait a loooong time. Meanwhile, I have to make due with 25 inches. Wait, that didn't sound right...

Okay Amanda. You gotta return to the days when you were poor. And you didn't buy heavy things. The heaviest thing you bought back then was probably Ramen.
