Blog World

You hear a lot about all the weirdoes who live in the vast reaches of anonymous cyberspace.

And then, there are the bloggers.

We spend our days posting our deepest thoughts and our most nagging concerns. We tell stories about our most comical screw ups. We share our favorite jokes and comics and ask each other way-too-personal questions considering we’ve never met. Those with talent post wonderful examples of their creative writing skills and those of us with less talent pretend we’re qualified to critique their work by attaching our trivial comments.

We form little communities of cyber friends. We have “private” jokes we take from one blog to another, knowing only “insiders” will catch on. We discuss topics ranging from our religious beliefs to our sex lives, with total strangers, and somehow that does not seem altogether bizarre.

I’ve had my blog for only about a month now. When I started, I included NO personal information. My posts were vague and general. I wanted to protect my anonymity. After all, there are a lot of weirdoes out there in cyberspace. I’m much more open in my blog now, because I’ve learned something as I’ve gotten to know folks in this little community. There really ARE a lot of weirdoes out here…and I’m one of them! But for the most part, we’re surprisingly supportive of each other’s strange idiosyncrasies.

I kind of like it here.

Tis true, WW. We who blog are an eclectic mix of personalities, phobias and neurosis. Unfortunately, there are also those out there who receive their gratification not in reading our blogs, but in mis-reading them, or by taking umbrage with the posts or comments of our fellow wits and sages, leading to unwarranted attacks on the poster.
This of course tends to make some shy away from blogging, regardless of how much they may be contributing to the world at large, and their fellow bloggers in general.
I think of the Disciples, all but one of whom was martyred for Christ; but none of whom gave up on spreading the Word...
Some voices should never be silenced.

Hey Word. I've been blogging since right after the New year and it's been fun. I don't usually get too personal, I try to keep it amusing and entertaining, but every now and again I throw in a serious topic or a personal story. It's amazing how fast my site has grown. I went from an average of about 4 readers to about 30, almost overnight. The best part for me has been interacting with so many people and getting to see other people's opinions and perspectives on pretty much every topic....it's really been fun!

Charlie: I know what you mean! I posted a blog called, "How Did You Find Me" to try to determine where my readers came from. Comments would show up on my blog from people whose blog I'd never visited. I suspected they had followed a link or a comment on another blog, but never thought my comments insightful or comical enough to create a burning desire to dig deeper into the psyche of the whiz! Go figure!

Sar: I found you though Hermes blog. He would be that talented creative writer upon whose blog I leave my meaningless, lacking-in-insight comments!!

"I'M NOT WORTHY!!"

It sounds incredibly simple, but I read other blogs because I find people really, really interesting. Like yourself, I enjoy gifted writers - ashamedly, I confess to spending hours on occasion just jumping from blog to blog. Perhaps my time would be better spent in other ways, but it's what I enjoy (for now)...

WW. My darling dear I found you thru the Hof. Ironically I was the one who inadvertently got Hof started on the blogging and he has more traffic than me!! :)
We talked about our little blogger clique we have going and how much we love ya'll. It's getting to where I see something and think-"OMG Sandra would Looove that", Or "that's totally somethin WW would say." Hof has a tendency to say stuff like.. "Don't worry I won't go all Underhill on ya."
I love how, as bloggers, we don't need a voice to 'hear' someone. The writing provides us with as clear or as fuzzy a picture as we want.
But I like remaining anonymous and unseen. But who knows maybe you all will be invited to the (online?)wedding! ;)

a*: Was that an ANNOUNCEMENT???

Please let Hof finish his current string of posts before the big day. I still have a number of unanswered questions and he's really good at getting inside the male mind. (I wonder why that is?) I need all the help I can get!!!

WW- HA! No it wasn't an announcement more like a 'hee hee' joke. We are plodding along and enjoying our time together. One day at a time!!
Hof actually has a crapload of stuff going on at work preventing him from constant blogging. But I can tell you his mind is actively ruminating over the answers to your questions. He loves them so keep 'em coming!

what an excellent description of blogging and the blogging world! i love all of my blogging friends and was trying to explain all of this to a non-blogger and she just didn't get it. she totally freaked out on me when i told her about my flirtatiousness with mr. underhill. she didn't think it was 'safe'. i gave up trying to explain it all to her. now she is all worried about me. i think i am going to send her your post. maybe she will understand better what i am talking about.
