Pondering the complexities of life.

Cube Land

Sometimes, you just gotta do something to break the monotony of life in a cublicle!

I admit that I can be extremely obsessive about certain things. Take cruising for example. Just back from my cruise with Karen and packing up for my cruise with the kids (leaving this Saturday), I have already booked NEXT YEAR'S cruise! Paul and I will be cruising on Carnival Destiny out of San Juan January 21-28, visiting St. Thomas, Dominica, Barbados and Aruba. Thanks to my credit card points, we'll get $400 off the cost of the cruise. Taking advantage of a travel-agency early-booking incentive, we'll get a free shore excursion. Because it will be my fifth sailing on Carnival, we'll get a free cabin upgrade. I LOVE free stuff!!

Man, I love free stuff too! I can't plan that far ahead though for stuff because of how our calendar is stacking up. Alex finishes up his dual International MBA program next May 2007, and then hopefully we'll get married, and then hopefully he'll be starting out a new job here. We need to save all money for wedding (and getting him a car...he now has his American full fledged license, but no car), so no cruising yet. STILL! Maybe we could do it for a honeymoon. My financially comfortable brother would probably send us on a cruise as his wedding gift. So, it's a possibility.

My credit card is an amazon.com one that gets gift certificates for amazon when I use it. Sometimes they have double points months too, so last year alone I think I took in about $150 to $200 worth of free gift certificates. Is yours a cruising credit card or somesuch?

SCARLET: That's my favorite too!

KIRA: Yes, it's through an on-line travel agency called i-cruise.com. It used to be better. Last fall they reduced the amount of discount they offer for each block of points. They also put a lower cap on - $400 is the most you can get off per cabin. It used to be $1000. Carnival has a card to called "Sea Miles". Their points can be traded for stuff other than just cruises, but they don't have a nice chart which tells me exactly how many points I need to get a certain discount. Because of that, I can't really tell if it would be any better. I asked on the ship and they couldn't even really tell me how many points equalled how much of a discount.

You are a master planner. I'm not that organized. Lucky for me CK is. Have a great time. I'll be thinking of you. Try not to lounge on the piano too often. The kids will be watching. :)

I've never been on a cruise unless you count the time we menfolk canoed down the muddy Missouri. When we camped ashore, a rattlesnake came to visit us. It is nice to spend time with the locals when you're on vacation.

I am glad to hear that, because the Nigerians are updating their mailing list and they are always looking for somebody who wants something for nothing.
