Pondering the complexities of life.

Count Down

It was ONE degree when I drove past the bank this morning. My car heater was just beginning to put out some warm air when I drove into Dunkin' Donuts for a hot cup of coffee. Stopping at the drive-thru speaker, I discovered my window was frozen shut! I had to open the door to place my order and again to pay for and take my cup of coffee. I hate the cold!!

On January 28 I will fly to Miami with my friend, Karen. We'll board the same cruise ship we took last year at this time, the Carnival Valor, and cruise the eastern Caribbean. (Last year we did the western itinerary.) The Saturday before our last cruise, we caught the very last plane leaving the Providence airport before it was snowed in. The following Monday, the entire state was shut down, by order of the governor. While Rhode Island was snowed in and frozen solid, Karen and I were sunning ourselves by the pool. Ahhh...

I'll celebrate my birthday on the ship, as I did last year. (January 30) Paul wanted to take me out for my birthday, but I won't be home until Super Bowl Sunday. (February 5 for non-sports fans.) Paul and I plan to go out for my birthday on February 11. Paul feels guilty that this short-changes me, since he already intended to take me out that night to celebrate Valentine's Day.

I'm so happy to have someone who remembers my birthday. I'm even happier to have someone who wants to take me out for a special dinner to celebrate my birthday. How can he belive I'd feel short-changed?? I'll never get used to being spoiled rotten. I never WANT to get used to it! I hope I never take it for granted!

I went to mark the date on my calendar earlier tonight and discovered that February 11th is also the six month anniversary of our first date. I guess we'll be celebrating THREE events that night!

Isn't he a handsome guy?

Yes, indeed he is. I hope you enjoy the cruise and your birthday. That sure is a great way to celebrate it!

Gee, you are on a roll there. If it lasts until Vegas, you'll have to bring extra cash to gamble. What am I saying? If you're on a roll, you won't need extra cash to gamble. Just gamble your spare change.

Send some warm wishes this way when you're in the Caribbean. Warm wishes is about as close as I'll get to the tropics this winter.

Yep, what a hottie!

It IS wonderful, isn't it? I can't ever get used to the good treatment either. Alex already has planned out things he wants to do for my birthday and Vday. Before, I was lucky if my ex even remembered what day it was when the day came. I'll never forget the most memorable bday I had with my ex. He woke up in the am and said, "Aw SHIT! It's your damn birthday. Do I have to drive to Greenville to get you a present, or can it wait until tomorrow?"

Yeah. And he wonders why I have no desire to come back! Short changed? Hardly. Reassure Paul on that matter: short changed is what you've already experienced. NOW you get more change back than you asked :)

KENJU: Thanks. An update: Paul couldn't get past the guilt of combining my birthday and Valentine's Day into one date. He's taking me out THIS weekend for my birthday and on February 11 for Valentine's Day. I am SO SPOILED!

DAVE: I couldn't be luckier! Although I wish you were meeting us in Vegas!! (So does Hoss!)

PETER: Afraid there will be no computers or phones on my cruise. (Atually, I LIKE it that way!) I will likely be begging the services of some of my favorite guest hosts to post in my absence.

KIRA: I know EXACTLY what you mean...EXACTLY!!! The standing joke in our house was that we had the car towed for my birthday. The AAA membership was in my name. The car broke down consistently on my birthday and I'd end up standing around in the cold, at whatever location the damn thing died, waiting for the tow truck. That was my birthday gift!!

BF: Awww...no wonder I'm so crazy about you!! Can't wait for Vegas. Be sure to book the room next to us! The reservation is in my name.

HOSS: My buns will not be exposed to the direct sunlight, thank you. And start preparing your excuses now. I'll be asking you to guest post. (You KNEW that was coming, didn't you?)
